Introduction
This guide explains the setup of a Proxmox cluster. In detail a cluster with Ceph storage and a Two-Node cluster with quorum are described.
TL;DR
Just steps
Here just the needed steps are listed, so it is easy to setup a cluster with or without Ceph Step-by-Step. Each step references sections with more information as long as included in this document.
Setup cluster
- Install all nodes
- Configure node using pxreconf
- Exchange SSH-keys between nodes
- Install subscription key and update nodes
- Check if all nodes are using the same kernel version
- Delete all existing VMs on the nodes
- Configure cluster/storage network
- Check multicast communication
- Create cluster on first node
- Join the other nodes to cluster
Setup Ceph
Before starting to setup Ceph a cluster is needed.
- Prepare disks
- Install Ceph packages on all nodes
- Create more Monitors
- Create OSDs
- Create Pool(s)
- Create Proxmox storage
Setup ZFS
Before setting up ZFS you should decide to create a cluster first.
- Prepare disk
- Create ZFS on disk
- Check Proxmox storage
