Network configuration
This section describes a simple network setup. For more information about the Proxmox network configuration please consult the official Proxmox VE documentation.
Network ports
Please refer to the right Appliance model you have.
Create bridge with physical port
To configure the network of a Proxmox node select the node and open System/Network in the node menu. Point on the Create button and select the entry Linux Bridge. The only required option is the bridge name. The network configuration of the bridge is only needed if the Proxmox node should be addressed using this bridge, otherwise the network settings can be omitted. If connected VMs should be reachable using a physical network interface, then the interface name must be inserted into the option Bridge ports. A short description of the the bridge can be inserted into the Comment field. The linux bridge will be created if the Create button is pressed. To activate the new bridge the node must be rebooted.
After reboot of the node all VMs connected to this bridge are accessable via the physical network interface.
Change root password
The password of a user (e.g. the user root) can be changed in the Datacenter menu. Here point to Permissions/Users and select the user, which password should be changed. Above the table with the user list the button Password will be get available. Using this button the password of the user can be changed.
System update
Proxmox subscription
Each node must have its own subscription key. The subscription key can be uploaded in the node menu in Subscription.
Proxy configuration
If the node has to use a proxy server to access the internet, then this proxy can be configured in the Datacenter menu in Options. Select the HTTP proxy entry and configure your proxy settings using the Edit button.
Proxmox update
To start an update open the node menu Updates. The Refresh button checks the updateserver for new packages. If new packages are available the update can be started by pressing the Upgrade button. A new window opens and shows the update command. There you have to confirm the start of the update by pressing the enter key or cancel the process by typing n followed by the enter key.
Please check the output of the command. Sometimes a restart of the node is required to finalize the update.
Storage configuration
The appliance has at least two mass storage devices: one on which the Proxmox VE is installed and one to store the VM image data.
It is possible to have more mass storages, but these are unused on delivery and can be configured on purpose (see Disks menu in Proxmox WebUI of the nodes).
Creation of new storages can be done via the Proxmox VE WebUI (the entry Storage is located in the Datacenter menu).
